EMS

The Norton Fire Department EMS Division continues to strive to be one of the top Ambulance Services in this area. The EMS Division continuously improve and expand our ability to provide the highest level of care to our community. We accomplish this through progressively finding ways to enhance our knowledge, skills and equipment. Some of these recent examples would be:

  • Adding Ultrasonic Technology
  • Addition of UV lights inside the Ambulances to Combat Covid 19
  • Community Paramedic Program during Covid 19 Pandemic
  • Certification as a Lab for Covid Testing
  • Active Shooter Training
  • Medical Specialist Training for Regional Technical Rescue Team
  • Specialized K-9 Medical/Trauma Training for recent passing of Nero’s Law

The EMS Division consists of 34 EMT-Paramedics and 9 EMT’s. We operate 3 fully equipped Advanced Life Support Units. R-41 is at Fire HQ’s, R-42 is at Station 1, and R-43 is housed at Fire HQ’s as a mechanical spare should one of the other units need maintenance or repair. This allows us to always have 2 Ambulances Staffed and ready for the needs of the Norton Residents.

All of our Paramedics and EMT’s are cross trained as Firefighters, which provides the Residents in the Town, quick, efficient, and professional care with whatever the Emergency turns out to be.

Currently the EMS Division responds to approximately 2000-2200 calls for service each year. Medical Insurance or Vehicle insurance in the case of a Motor Vehicle Crash is billed directly to the insurance company so the patient normally does not have to get involved, except in the cases of Co-Pays or pre planned deductibles. Money collected from the Insurance Companies helps to offset costs associated with providing these EMS services.
